The Invention LAB
Mr. David Jinyoung Kim, the CEO of The Invention LAB, was in charge of strategic planning at Softbank Media, a media affiliate of Softbank Korea in 1997, and served as Managing Director of Softbank Research & Consulting. In 2003. Kim established the ROA Consulting Group, a consulting firm specialized in the IT Industry in Tokyo, Japan(Co-Founder). He then established ROA Consulting Korea corporation in 2004, and has led BM development and new business strategy consulting for 14 years for domestic leading mobile operators and device makers
Kim resigned as CEO of ROA Consulting in February 2017, and then founded his second founding, a separate independent corporation, The Invention LAB. The Company is now one of the top-notch accelerators in Korea and has invested over 130 early stage startups since 2017. The total enterprise value of startups invested by The Invention Lab is over KRW 1.2 trillion (USD 10B), and the company has invested approximately KRW 28 billion (USD 25M) in the past five years
The Invention Lab was established to discover, foster, invest in technology driven startups pursuing technological innovation and has developed a new start-up accelerating program from the Open Innovation methodology with large and medium-sized group of companies in the manufacturing, finance and telecommunications sectors (SK Telecom, KB Kookmin Card, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Motor Group, CJ Olive Networks, Samsung Securites, Kyobo Life Insurance, Welcome Financial group, etc.) The Invention Lab has established a subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2019) and has invested in 15 Vietnamese startups, including OKXE(used motorcycle trading platform), Go2Joy(hotel room reservation service platform), GOMI (e-commerce platform), Reviewty(beauty commerce platform), Beberia(parenting community and e-commerce platform), Yaholab(childcare tutor match-making service), and SpaceT (interior construction brokerage platform)
David Jinyoung Kim holds a Ph.D. in business administration from Kyung-Hee University(Korea), an MBA from Helsinki School of Economics(HSE, Finland), and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Korea University
